ALKALINITY DOSING PUMP
The alkalinity of the boiler must be maintained
to prevent corrosion and a level minimum of 350mg/l of caustic
alkalinity is recommended by BS2486. (or 10-15% of the TDS level). The injection
point for the alkalinity pump
is not too critical on a low pressure boiler and can be on the suction or
discharge of the side of the feed pump.

Many systems do not use alkalinity builders
instead preferring to use the natural alkalinity of the feed water;
this has the disadvantage of the alkalinity decomposing into carbon dioxide and
causing corrosion to the condensate system
